A boy named Joey is lost out in a mine hole where he lays there with a broken ankle and fractured shoulder. He lays there for help for 2 days. When he is conscious a Jap comes along and helps him out of the hole. He drags him out of the hole with a vine and sticks and gives him water. Joey wakes up and sees him and is concerned that the Jap is a Japanese Soldier. The Jap lights a fire and warns others. He gets rescued and taken to the hospital for care. His mother comes down from work in Sydney and they both stay in Biscuit Creek where they both stay with their Aunt Lallie. At school Joey gets made fun of but makes a friend named Myrtle. They also make a friend named Joe who believes that there is a Jap out there. Joey and Myrtle share their adventures with him and go out looking for the Jap.
